Lemon
cars and consumer lending “When loans give you lemons”
The Legal Practice Section's Australian Consumer Law Committee is hosting another exciting ‘Consumer Rights Forum’ in person in Perth and by webinar.
The Forum will feature an eminent panel of experts facilitated by Roberta Grealish, Principal Solicitor at Consumer Credit Legal Service Western Australia.
Consumer advocates have long campaigned for better protections for people who purchase faulty or ‘lemon’ cars and whose problems are compounded by irresponsible, expensive and unfair loans.
Purchasers of motor vehicles are protected by consumer guarantees under the Australia Consumer Law, by responsible lending obligations and by prohibitions against misconduct under the National Credit Act, yet consumers who end up with a lemon car secured by an expensive loan face the complexity of multiple legal and geographical jurisdictions. The pursuit of justice for these consumers can be confusing, costly, time consuming and inaccessible.
Registrations are now open and close 5pm Thursday 9 May 2024.
Don't miss this opportunity to be part of an important discussion on consumer rights and the challenges faced by consumers in the motor vehicle industry. Whether you're a consumer advocate, a legal practitioner, or a consumer, this forum promises to be an invaluable source of information and a platform for advocating for better consumer protections.
There's a limited capacity for in-person attendance, so if you're interested, please make sure to secure your spot quickly. For those who can't make it in-person, the forum will also be accessible via webinar, ensuring that geographical boundaries do not restrict participation.2024 Consumer Rights Award
The 2024 Consumer Rights Award will also be presented at the Forum by The Hon. Justice Banks-Smith.
