Philip was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 1975. He is also admitted in New South Wales and Tasmania.
Philip has always practised primarily in Family Law and now accepts briefs in Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania. Philip is a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and a qualified Family Law Arbitrator and approved as a Mediator under the NMAS scheme.
Philip has served both the profession and the cause of law reform during his career.
Philip was a member of the Family Law Council subcommittees appointed to report on Arbitration and Mediation in Family Law. Recommendations in the reports were used as the basis to amend the Family Law Act to include arbitration and mediation in the Act.
He is a member of the Federal Dispute Resolution Sections, ADR Committee and was a member of the inaugural National Alternative Dispute Resolution Advisory Council.
Between 2008 and 2015, Philip lectured at the Tasmanian Legal Practice Course in Family Law. He is an accredited ICL in Tasmania and approved as counsel to represent ICL’s in New South Wales.
Philip is an Honorary Life Member of FLS and in 2016 the Law Society of Tasmania recognised him as Lawyer of the Year for service to the profession for work in dispute resolution.
Philip practises as a barrister, Family Law Arbitrator, mediator and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners.
