International and Comparative Aspects of Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Law
The International Law Section invites you to attend the third lecture as part of the ILS International Law and Practice Course 2025 and be inspired by Angus Lang SC as he shares his expertise on the comparative aspects of between international intellectual property law and artificial intelligence (AI).
This presentation will address the challenges presented to intellectual property laws by artificial intelligence technology, and will discuss some current litigation in this field, as well as ongoing efforts at law reform in Australia and worldwide.

Meet the Speaker
Angus Lang SC is senior counsel specialising in intellectual property litigation. He has acted for clients across a wide range of industries, including mobile telecommunications and information technology, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and arts and entertainment. He appears regularly in the Federal Court and High Court of Australia, frequently in relation to intellectual property disputes of a global character.
He was a member of the Temporary Expert Group on AI advising government on proposed legislation for the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence, and is a member of the steering committee of the Copyright and Artificial Intelligence Reference Group convened by the Attorney-General’s Department. He has also been, through the Law Council of Australia, involved in advising government on its international obligations and treaty negotiation in the intellectual property field; and regularly teaches international and comparative intellectual property law, both in Australia and Europe.
