Katherine is a barrister at Level 22 Chambers in Sydney. Her core practice area is administrative law. She acts for both private parties (applicants, appellants) and government agencies and has considerable experience defending agencies as respondents to merits and judicial review applications. Since 2016, Katherine has been regularly been listed by Best Lawyers in the categories of Government Practice and Immigration Law. She was recognised by Best Lawyers as the 2023 ‘Lawyer of the Year’ award recipient for her work in Immigration Law in Sydney. 

Notable 2023 cases in which Katherine appeared unled before the Full Federal Court include Mailau v Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs [2023] FCAFC 12 (concerning the application of the standard of satisfaction discussed in Briginshaw to administrative decision-making) and BKX23 v Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs [2023] FCAFC 184 (whether a Tribunal had acted under dictation by reference to another Tribunal decision). 

Katherine recently relied upon the materiality jurisprudence developed in the migration context in an appeal in the District Court from a decision of a costs review panel (A.C.N. 627 087 030 Pty Ltd trading as Yates Beaggi Lawyers v Poche [2023] NSWDC 551). She also has an extensive practice involving professional disciplinary matters in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
