Simon Haag

Simon has overview of case management of migration matters in both the Federal Court and the Federal Circuit and Family Court, assisted by a team of Registrars and lawyers. Simon also oversees the operation of the dedicated national migration team in Registry.

In the Federal Court, Simon assists the Chief Justice with determinations regarding migration case management and listing arrangements by reviewing and analysing the body of migration cases before the High Court, Federal Court and Circuit Court at any given time, and the issues they raise.

Simon has been working in the area of migration law since 2006, including volunteer work with the Refugee and Casework Service in NSW. He came to the Court from an 11-year career in migration and citizenship law private practice, with six of those as a Senior Associate at Fragomen. During that time he consulted regularly with the Department of Immigration regarding the design and policy settings of various visa programs, wrote a number of articles on migration law developments for law journals, and appeared before Senate Committees to provide evidence regarding the operation of migration legislation.
