Sanmati Verma

Sanmati Verma is a Managing Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre and leads the Centre's work on migrant and refugee rights. She is a Law Institute of Victoria accredited specialist in immigration law and has practised in field for over a decade. Before joining the Human Rights Law Centre, Sanmati was a partner at Clothier Anderson Immigration Lawyers where she had a substantial public interest litigation practice.
Sanmati is an adviser to the United Workers Union, deputy chair of the national Visa Cancellation Working Group and serves on the board of the Migrant Workers Centre. She was the recipient of the Law Institute of Victoria's 'Emerging Lawyer' Award (2016) and the International Commissions of Jurists' John Gibson Award for contribution to refugee law and advocacy (2022).
